This page contains notes about the tutorials and documentation I plan to create to help new MediaWiki users minimize the impact of session timeouts.
- If just noticed an Edit page that has probably been open for less than 4 hours (session has timed out)
- Scroll to the top, right click on the logo in the upper right, choose open in new tab, login, go back to first tab, click Save
- If you noticed an Edit page > 8 hours (session has ???? -> ask ChatGPT for the terminology)
- Scroll to top, right click on the Read link and choose New Window. Open the two windows side-by-side and review the page line by line. If you see disrepancies, click Edit in the new window that just opened. Most likely there
- When you return to a page in Read mode that you have not looked at in a few hours, best to click the Read link as soon as you start reading the page.
- The page content will remain as it refreshes, so it will not increase friction (slow down your working)
- This will tell you if your session has timed out
- If you had edited this content in another browser tab, the content will be refreshed
